Gardendale

Gospel singing

May 2 A gospel singing will be held at the Gardendale Civic Center at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Steel City Quartet, soloist Abrielle Mullins, and Eden Mullins and Chris Mullins. Free admission. Sponsored by the Gardendale Arts Council.



Clothes swap

May 2 Decatur Highway Church of Christ in Gardendale will hold a clothes swap from 9 a.m. to 1 631-7000p.m. You do not have to bring clothes to get clothes. The church is accepting clothing donations until April 30. Call Elizabeth Johnson at 223-2353 or Tracy Durham at 283-3476.



Gospel Meeting

Auditions

May 3-4 The Gardendale Arts Council is holding auditions for the July musical production of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at the Gardendale Civic Center on May 3 at 2 p.m. and on May 4 at 6:30 p.m. Casting will be for men and women ages teen to adult. Senior Day

Yard Sale

May 9 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Ladies Altar Sodality yard sale, 8-4, in the Parish Hall. Furniture, clothing, appliances, tools, toys. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Rain or shine. Refreshments available. 334 Main Street.



Decoration

May 10 Friendship Community Church Decoration. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. A singing featuring Total Praise will start at 1:30 p.m.



Cemetery clean-up

Friendship Community Church will have a cemetery clean-up every Saturday until Mother’s Day. Everyone with loved ones buried in the cemetery is encouraged to help clean to get ready for Decoration on May 10.



Relay for Life

May 15 The North Jefferson County Relay for Life will be held at the Kenneth Clemons Athletic Complex (soccer fields) on Fieldstown Road in Gardendale from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The purpose of the annual event is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Historical Society

May 16 Eva Glaze will be speaker for the May meeting of the Gardendale Historical Society. The Gardendale Historical Society is inviting the community to join. The Society meets the third Saturday of every month at the Gardendale Public Library. The fee is $10 a year for individuals and $15 a year for families. Call Patsy Duncan, 608-3375.



Recovery Meetings

Mount Olive

Park Day

May 2 Mt. Olive Ballpark annual Park Day. Festivities begin May 1 with a parade leaving the ball park at 6 p.m. Ball games begin at 9 a.m. May 2. There will be Greentop BBQ, carnival games, prizes and more. Call Johnny Morton at 631-1391 or Lamar Sutherland at 919-9315.



Concert

May 3 Mt. Olive Alliance Church will host a concert of hymns, spirituals and contemporary Christian music at 10:30 a.m. The church is at 1270 McCravy Lane. Call 631-9337.



Registration

May 14 Mt. Olive Elementary School will have a second registration date, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for all new and returning students. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade. For more information, call Mt. Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full-day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Fultondale

Yard Sale

May 1-2 Fultondale United Methodist Church yard sale sponsored by the United Methodist men and women to benefit missionaries. May 1, 8-2; May 2, 8-noon.



Bazaar

May 2 Walker Chapel United Methodist Church women’s group bazaar, 8-1:30. Bake sale, items for sale, hot dogs and fries. From Birmingham, take I-65 north, turn left onto Walker Chapel Road, the church is a quarter-mile on the left.



Registration

May 22 Fultondale Elementary School will host registration, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., for all new and returning students. Morris

Bake, yard sale

April 30-May 1 Morris Beautification Board spring bake and yard sale on April 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and May 2, 8 a.m. to noon, at the Masonic Lodge, 8375 Old Hwy. 31. The sale will benefit parks and the grounds of the Morris Senior Center.



Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mothers Day Out program will offer childcare for children 6 weeks to 4 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program follows the Jefferson County School System calendar, so is closed during all of the breaks. Call 647-9614.



Warrior

Registration

April 29 Warrior Elementary School will host Kindergarten registration at 10 a.m. You may bring your child with you for a short introduction. Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to register. You must bring the following items: Two proofs of residence, blue immunization form, birth certificate, Social Security card, parent’s driver license, legal documents that contain pertinent information (such as custody papers, etc.) For more information, call Warrior Elementary at 379-5450.
