Fultondale

City applies for police help


The City of Fultondale is turning to grant funds to acquire more equipment and manpower for its police department. During the April 13 meeting, the council passed resolutions allowing Mayor Jim Lowery to enter into agreements to apply for $17,062 in funds for equipment and to apply for three police officers through the COPS grant. Lowery said the equipment grant is part of President Barack Obama’s stimulus package and will be administered by the Birmingham Police Department.

In other business, the council:

• passed a resolution to participate in the State of Alabama’s 2009 sales tax holiday which will make sales tax exempt on certain items. The sales tax holiday has been designated for the weekend of Aug. 7-9.

• announced the date of the Founder’s Day Festival as Aug. 22

The council will meet again on April 27 at 11:30 a.m.
