Dr. Kathryn Holloway Geisen

Memorial services for Dr. Kathryn Holloway Geisen will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, N.C. A private service will be held for the family.

Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Geisen lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, April 11, at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. Dr. Geisen earned her bachelor of science degree from Atlantic Christian College, an M.E.D. from Campbell University, and her doctorate from Nova Southern University. After many years in teaching and administration in the state community college system, she had currently been serving as vice president of Bladen Community College. Dr. Geisen was also president of the Elizabethtown Rotary Club, an active member of the Red Hat Society, an avid volunteer for “Walk for the Cure” and member of several other civic organizations. A renowned southern cook, Dr. Geisen was a sought-after caterer throughout her adult life and was a cookbook author.

Born in Lexington Kentucky, Sept. 17, 1950, she moved to North Carolina with her family at the age of nine and always remained in North Carolina.

She is survived by her parents, Betty and Roy Holloway of Goldsboro; her husband, Joseph Geisen of the home; daughters Lisa (Shane) LaGrone of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Jaime (Edward) King of Dover, N.C.; a sister, Janet Holloway Jackson and family of Clifton, Texas; and three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Will and Hayley LaGrone.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
