A Gardendale church is taking its worship service outdoors this weekend.

The Church Revived is hosting its first-ever Worship Without Walls on Sunday.

“The driving force behind it is that we’re trying to get outside the four walls of our church,” said Larry Dodd, pastor of The Church Revived.

“This is the first time we’ve done anything quite on this scale,” said Dodd. “We’re always looking for ways to get outside the church.”

Dodd said the main purpose is to create a non-threatening atmosphere so that people who do not normally go to church will feel comfortable.

“Church people are welcome, but we’re challenging those who aren’t churched to come,” he said. “It will be a laid-back, non-threatening atmosphere.”

Those in attendance are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blanks, and to dress casually.

Church volunteers will hand out hot dogs, chips and drinks after the service. There will also be a kid zone available after the service.

“Our people are always excited when we do things outside the box,” said Dodd.

Church Without Walls is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center amphitheater.

If it is raining, the service will be held at The Church Revived at 525 Bradley Road.
