Corner

Knox accepted into UAB honors program


Damon Knox, a Senior at Corner High School, has been accepted to the University Honors Program at UAB. Damon will be a freshman at UAB in the fall of 2009. After submitting his application, letters of recommendation and completing an interview process, he was one of 50 incoming freshmen chosen out of 338 applicants for the program. Damon will major in Biology and minor in Chemistry through the Honors Program. The program’s director is Michael Sloane, Ph.D.



Montevallo

Local students graduate


At least 200 University of Montevallo students received their diplomas in December. Local students include:

Students attend leadership conference


Russell McLendon and Michael Lambert, seniors at Gardendale High School, recently attended the 2009 High School Leadership Conference, titled “Chart Your Course,” held at Auburn University on Jan. 29-30. High-school students from around the state who had been recommended by their school counselors took part in many activities including small group sessions, a tour of the campus, and hearing a keynote address by Dr. Tim Elmore, author of the book “Habitudes.” McLendon and Lambert are both planning to attend Auburn University this fall.
