They may be the new kids in town, but they play like they’re old hands at the game.

And on Tuesday, Fultondale’s first-year boys soccer team taught Parkway Christian a lesson about the game, as they passed and shot their way to an 11-1 rout that ended after 70 minutes on the 10-goal rule.

Gustave Ezquerra led Fultondale with four goals, including the match’s last three within a seven-minute span. His third goal in the 65th minute was a laser shot that caught the inside of the goal’s upper left corner.

Salvador Varela also scored three goals, all in the first half. His first, scored in the 17th minute, was a thing of beauty — Varela slipped past the Parkway defender, froze the goalkeeper in his tracks, and drove the ball over his head and just under the crossbar.

The win comes off a 2-2 draw at St. Bernard Prep on Saturday, a match which the Wildcats led 2-0 for the first 50 minutes. Ezquerras and Uriel Cruz were the goal scorers.

The win is the second region victory in as many matches; their overall record is 2-1-1.
