Gardendale



Show

March 14 There will be a St. Patrick’s Day Show at Park Place at Moncrief in Gardendale doors open at 6 p.m. and show starts at 7 p.m. featuring Tara Kay “The Stylings of Reba.” There will be green refreshments. The cost is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Call 901-1174 for more information. They have also adopted the North Jefferson Baptist Association food and clothing bank as their 2009 Charity. Donations welcome at the show.



Open House and Grand Re-opening

March 28 There will be an open house and grand re-opening on March 28 for the North Jefferson Women’s Center’s new location at

1016 Mulberry Lane in Gardendale just off Fieldstown Road (turn by the Havoline Express). Ribbon Cutting will be held at 11 am and tours will be given until 1 pm. For more information please call 608-0757.



Singing

March 29 Fieldstown Church of God will hold a singing with Rocks of Faith on March 29 at 1:30 p.m. For more information call 631-6013.



Magnolia Festival

April 18 The eighth-annual Magnolia Festival will be held at the Gardendale Civic Center on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival will feature arts and crafts, classic car show, business expo, carnival rides, inflatables, pooch parade, live entertainment and a variety of food vendors. Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.

Mother’s Day Out

Car Seat Check

March 13 IGA in Kimberly will have an on-site safety car seat check from 1-4 p.m.



Health Fair

March 13 A health fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Center. All senior citizens are invited.



Open House

March 28 The Morris Beautification Board will host an open house and membership drive on March 28, 2-4 p.m., at the Morris Senior Center. For more information, call Betty Wood at 647-0730.



Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for children 6 weeks to 4 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program follows the Jefferson County School System calendar, so is closed during all of the breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

Brookside Greenway Festival

The 2009 Brookside Greenway Festival will be held on April 4 at Bensko Park from 6 a.m. to sunset. The event will feature the “Frenchie” Negron Classic Metric Century Bicycle Ride, Russian Wild Boar Off-Road Duathalon, arts and crafts, trade day vendors, fishing tournament, 5K and run run, canoe rides, an all-ages midway featuring rides and inflatables for kids, food vendors, cookie eating contest, motorcycle poker run and live entertainment. Critter Club

Ginger Tunnell (Grammy) is teaching “Critter Club” at the Birmingham Zoo. This is a one hour class for 3-5 year olds. They will learn about a new animal each week and have hands on experience with a live animal. This takes place on Tuesdays 10 -11 a.m. and 1:15 – 2:15 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 – 11a.m. Register at the class or online at www.birminghamzoo.com (Education). Baby Sitting Camp

March 16-20 The Birmingham Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will host “Babysitter’s Boot Camp” the week of spring break, March 16-20 at various locations. This is a two day “day camp” for youth ages 11 to 15 years old. The class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. both days. The first day youth learn how to be the best babysitter on the block and the second day they learn infant and child CPR. Not only do the youth get certified in babysitting and infant and child CPR; they also gain self-esteem and confidence, a sense of responsibility and accomplishment, and an early entrepreneur experience. Art on the Lake

April 18, 19 Art on the Lake, an annual two-day arts and crafts event in Guntersville, is now accepting applications from artists and vendors who wish to exhibit in the show.
