Tabernacle Christian’s quest to repeat as the Alabama Christian Education Association’s boys basketball champions came up short, as the Torches lost to Montgomery Eastwood Christian 50-47 in a quarterfinal matchup at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa.

John White achieved a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Landon Ingle scored 12 points and Dylan Hargreaves added 10 for the Torches.

“Defensively, the guys held a high-scoring team to a modest score,” said Coach David Corbett. “They did a fantastic job on the boards against Eastwood’s three 6-foot-6 players.”

Eastwood finished as the runner-up, losing to Victory Christian of Columbus, Mississippi in the title game.

On the girls’ side, the Torches lost in the semifinals to Eastwood by a 45-29 score, cutting short their bid for a second consecutive state title. Candace Coleman was the only Torches player in double digits.
