Gardendale
Tuesday accident hospitalizes two
Two people were hospitalized after a Tuesday morning wreck on Tarrant Road. Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker said the accident happened at about 9:36 a.m. near Teresa Drive and Country Club Trail. Walker said a vehicle driven by Diana Reno reportedly crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck another vehicle driven by Shirley Glascock head-on. Both Reno and Glascock were taken to local hospitals and were still hospitalized as of press time. The accident is reportedly still under investigation and an arrest may be forthcoming.
Fultondale
City to host meth meeting
The City of Fultondale will host an informational meeting Monday about the dangers of the drug methamphetamine and what residents should look for in their communities. The session will feature police and fire representatives from throughout north Jefferson County and is open to the public. The meeting will be held in the Fultondale court room at 6 p.m.
Birmingham
Area home sales drop
A report released this week by the Birmingham-Area Multiple Listing Service, Inc., showed a drop in the number of home sales in north Jefferson County in January 2009 as compared to January 2008. However, home prices saw increases over 2008 figures. In January 2008, 56 homes were sold at an average price of $142,525. In January 2009, 32 homes were sold at an average price of $166,731. Across the Birmingham area, home sales were down a total of 36 percent from the same time last year, the report said.
