National Signing Day on Wednesday meant scholarship signings for two local high school athletes.

Gardendale linebacker Tyrone Bowie, flanked by his father Robert and mother Joanne, signed a scholarship offer from Mississippi Valley State, an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) school in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Bowie was selected to the ASWA Class 6A All-State team last season.

Katelyn Geddings, with mother Toni and father Jim by her side, signed a scholarship for a different kind of football. Geddings, a goalkeeper with the Birmingham United club soccer team where she posted a perfect 0.00 goals-against average last season, is headed for Jacksonville State. Geddings gained a bit of fame for playing the other kind of football last season, when she kicked extra points for Corner High.
