Whether you like it or not, I’m back.
A lot has happened since my last column. We missed Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s, a new president and so much more. There have been several changes in my own little world since our last column.
On a sad note, my Maw-Maw, Betty Jane Shaver, went home to be with her Lord on Nov. 22. I can’t say enough about what a great loss this was for me and my family. But our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Maw-Maw was such a go-getter — her spunk and attitude were such huge assets to our family. She always kept us laughing and she showed us how to be better women of God, mothers and wives. Our family will never be the same without her and I know I will never be the same since her passing. But through our sorrow, God brought joy when He allowed us to have our little angel, Anna Cadence Pelkey, on Nov. 25. When she was born, our whole family had a new sense of happiness.
With a new daughter comes new challenges. The difference from one child to two is amazing. My sister always said that you aren’t truly a parent until you have two children and I can see what she was talking about.
It will test you at times and yet it will give you more happiness than you could have ever imagined.
I can’t tell you the times that I have sat and held my girls and just thanked God that He allowed me to have them. We had a scare two weeks ago when Anna was hospitalized with a virus. The doctors told us that they weren’t sure if she was going to make it. At this moment in any parent’s life you start to pray.
I asked everyone I came in contact with to pray for her. After six days in the hospital, we headed home with a perfectly healthy infant.
God has proven so much to me in the past two months. But more than anything, He has shown me how much He cares for his children.
When I thought that I was watching my daughter die, I didn’t care about anything else in the world. The only thing I wanted was her safety. That’s how God feels about us. He doesn’t care about anything in the world as much as He cares for His kids.
So, when you are hurting and you think no one cares, remember that He does. When you are happy and don’t have a care in the world, remember that He still cares about you. Our God is a great God and an awesome provider and I am so thankful that He was there for my family over the past two months.
I am also thankful that He has allowed me to come back to my place of employment and be back in the community. It’s just good to be back.
