Mayor to give address on Thursday
Mayor Jim Lowery will give his State of the City address Thursday at 8 a.m. at Fultondale City Hall. All Fultondale residents are invited to attend.
Gardendale
Chamber to host banquet on Thursday
The Greater Gardendale Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Guest speaker will be former Crimson Tide quarterback Jay Barker. Tickets for the event are $25 per person and $250 for a corporate table for up to eight persons. For more information, contact the chamber at 631-9195.

Council votes to request de-obligation of funds
The Gardendale City Council took the final steps to scuttle a plan that would have constructed sidewalks along Odum Road. At the Monday night Gardendale City Council meeting, the council voted to request a de-obligation of state grant funds for the project, which was initially approved in 2005.
In other business, the council:
• opened bids for vehicle-mounted cameras for police cars. Two bids were submitted including: Falcon Direct, $4,895; and McCord Communications, $3,623.
• heard the first reading of a proposed ordinance to rezone 2695 and 2697 Snow Rogers Road from INST-1 (institutional district) to R-2 (residential district). The rezoning was given a favorable recommendation by the planning and zoning commission at its last meeting.
• annexed city-owned property at 2101 and 2131 Fieldstown Road into the city of Gardendale. The property is part of the Kenneth A. Clemons Athletic Complex.
• accepted the streets of the Crown Point subdivision for maintenance
• hired Reba Main as a school crossing guard
Kimberly
Some temporary positions to go full-time
The Kimberly Town Council on Jan. 13 voted to make some city employees’ positions permanent. When the new council took office in November, it made all positions temporary in order to review all employees. The council made permanent the positions for city clerks, street department workers, the senior citizen director and city inspectors. Still in temporary status are police officers and dispatchers. In other business, the council voted to send Kimberly Police Chief Mike Melvin to a police conference last week.
