With the postseason just around the corner, Tuesday night felt like the perfect time for Regina Jones to try something new.
And the newbies didn’t disappoint.
Using six players from West Point’s middle school squad, Jones and the Warriors varsity team handed a depleted Fairview squad a 40-22 defeat at Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
“We just have nine varsity players, so when the middle school season ended, I asked if any of them wanted to continue and get some more experience,” said Jones. “It was good to get them some game experience.”
All 15 players on the West Point roster saw action, with guard Sarah Perry leading the scoring with 13 points. Kaitlin Laney grabbed 15 rebounds to go with six points.
The Warriors’ numerical superiority showed, as West Point outrebounded the visiting Aggies 55-45 and grabbed 15 steals to Fairview’s 11.
Dressing just seven players — Jazz Foust sustained an ankle injury Monday against Holly Pond — Fairview couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm on offense. The Aggies shot 21.6 percent from the field and did not hit a 3-pointer.
