I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am so glad 2008 is over. I am looking forward to a much better year. Of course that does not mean I will have one, but I hope all of you do. I wish everyone a year of good health, wealth and happiness.
• We are back in the swing of things at city hall and I just wanted to apologize to the gas customers who received disconnect notices in error during the holidays. It was a computer error and we are so very sorry.
•The Christmas for Kids Program would like to personally thank everyone who contributed to our program to help needy families. Whether you donated toys or money, we appreciate it greatly. A special thanks to Keith from Off Road Connection for the run he organized that brought in a truck load of toys to us. Also thanks to Ray Forgues from Teddy Bear Land, Fultondale High School, JBY Dance Assoc., Judy McCarty and Super Bowl Lanes, Fultondale AmVets, Summers Service Co., Southern Midways, Maurice’s Dept. Store, American Legion Riders, Gloria from the Church and all our faithful residents who always donate. We thank you for your continued support.
• Thanks to everyone that shopped at our new shopping center. We hope your shopping experience in Fultondale was a good one and that you felt safe being in our city.
• We would like to send heart-felt sympathies to the family of Sanford Herron who passed away during the New Year’s holiday. Please remember his family in your prayers.
• Please continue to remember Mrs. Polly Goodwin in your prayers; she is still at Ketona going through rehab. We hope she has a speedy recovery and back home real soon.
• I would like to congratulate Ms. Jessica Mullins of our Gas Department and my son, Derek Barnes, who became engaged on Christmas Eve. Jessica is the daughter of Debbie and Richard Mullins of Hayden. A special thanks to her grandparents who allowed us to barge in on their family Christmas for this surprise. I wish them a lifetime of happiness; I am so very proud of them.
• The Fultondale City Council will meet on Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 26 at 11:30 at city hall.
• A special happy birthday wish to Councilman Darrell Hubbert on Jan. 13. We hope he has a wonderful birthday and many, many more.
• Also, happy birthday wishes to Det. David Rogers of our police department on Jan. 15 and to Harold Harris, Jr., of the street department on Jan. 16. All do a great job and we hope they have great birthdays.
• I would like to thank the North Jefferson News staff for the great gift basket that was given to us. I just want to remind them my birthday is coming up and the goodies were excellent (hint, hint).
• Remember if you have news, anniversaries, birthdays or reunions, let me know.
