Third quarter rally pushes Rocket boys to win

JASPER — Gardendale found itself down at halftime after a 3-point goal at the buzzer, but outscored homestanding Walker by 10 points in the third period, putting the Rockets on their way to a 48-39 win in Saturday boys’ basketball action.
The victory extends the Rockets’ winning streak to 10 games, and moves their overall record to 13-1.
Nigel Ramsey led the way for Gardendale with 19 points, including 3-for-6 from outside the arc, with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Drew Faile scored 10 points and Clint Guin added six. Faile and Guin also pulled down seven rebounds and grabbed three steals each.
Skyler Herald paced the Vikings (4-12) with 12 points, including three 3-pointers of his own.
Walker played without center Andrew Ganey, the team’s leading scorer, who was sidelined with an illness.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Walker 50, Gardendale 39
It was a mirror image in the girls game, as Walker used a 15-7 third-quarter rally to take the lead for good beating the Rockets 50-39.
Asha Holiday led all scorers with 18 points for the Vikings (9-6). Katie Martin added eight points.
For Gardendale (9-8), Kasi Jones had 17 points. Haley Hardman grabbed 13 rebounds.
HOMEWOOD GAMES TONIGHT
Tuesday’s games at Homewood were moved to tonight because of severe weather.
