Gardendale



Financial Seminar

Jan. 13 Central Baptist Church on Newfound Road in Gardendale is offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, a 13-week course beginning Jan. 13 each Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Call Ronald at 919-0722 for more details.



Winter Wonderland Dance

The sixth-annual 2008 Winter Wonderland Dance with Edd Jones Band is scheduled for Feb. 28.

In preparation for the dance, Jackie Tally and Andy Anderson will be teaching lessons each Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 20 through Feb. 24 in the exhibition hall at the Gardendale Civic Center.

Lessons in Rumba will start Jan. 20 for three consecutive weeks. Lessons in Swing will start Feb. 10 for three consecutive weeks. Cost is $5 per lesson, per person.



TOPS Meetings

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, Room 2208. Robert Pliner is the leader. For more information call 608-0606.

Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.

Mother’s Day Out

Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church has Mother’s Day Out every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information please call Sylvia Norton at 841-8426.



Kimberly



Smoke Detectors

The Kimberly Fire Department is accepting names and telephone numbers for Kimberly residents to receive a free smoke detector. Residents who are elderly, have young children or are disabled qualify to receive the detectors, which will be installed by firefighters. Call Kimberly Town Hall at 647-5551.

Meals On Wheels Program

January 2009, the Jefferson County Office of Senior Citizens Services (OSCS) Meals on Wheels Program seeks volunteers, individuals, or group organizations to deliver meals 1 to 2 hours out of their day, or even once a month to help. Currently, Meals on Wheels serves on average 3,800 hot meals per week to 960 clients, but due do the lack of volunteers there are around 400 people on the waiting list for the program. If you would like more information on how to become a Meals on Wheels volunteer, please call Alma Moore at 592-0413.

Box 849, Gardendale, AL, 35071; brought to our office at 1110 Main Street; or faxed to 631–9902 before 4 p.m. on Friday in order to run in the next Wednesday edition, space permitting.
