The Warrior City Council on Monday voted to annex about six acres into the city. The property belongs to the Musgrove family, which wanted to be inside the city limits, according to city officials. In other business the council:
• voted to send Police Chief Ray Horn to AACOP training in Huntsville
• granted an extension for The Beacon New United Methodist Church to conduct worship services in the former armory building on Cane Creek Road. The church was supposed to move out at the end of the year. The extension is to July 1, 2009.
• approved librarian Shirley Faye Pugh carrying over three of her vacation days
• Heard councilman Theodore Hines read an article about Alabama Power participating in programs that help needy families with their electric bills
• called a special meeting on Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the city’s finances. The meeting will be followed by the regular pre-council meeting at 6:30 p.m. and city council meeting at 7 p.m.
• changed the Jan. 19 meeting to Jan. 20 because of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The pre-council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. It includes a public hearing to discuss assessing the values of abandoned properties in the city so the city can put a lien on them.
