The City of Fultondale will have its annual Christmas tree lighting on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Fultondale City Park, located behind city hall. There will be refreshments from 6 to 6:30, then Santa will lead us in Christmas carols. Photos can also be taken with Santa in the sleigh. The elementary school and junior high school choirs will sing, followed by comments from city leaders. Make plans to come on out and join in the festivities to get in the Christmas spirit. I am sure the kids would love to see Santa.
• I would love to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and wonderful Christmas holiday. Please remember the reason for the season — keep Christ in Christmas. You know so many times we all get so busy with the decorating, cooking and shopping the we forget the real reason we are celebrating — the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior. I know in today’s world we are not suppose to talk about that, but it is my personal belief and I am so thankful for the many blessings we are given on a daily basis that we take for granted. We need to remember we are only one heartbeat away from meeting our maker and we should live every day like it may be the last. If we did that, I think it would make a big difference in our lives.
• Please remember the families in our communities that are in need this holiday season. If you are blessed with a little extra, try helping someone else out. The feeling of helping someone that really needs it is amazing. Also, it can be a very difficult time of year for families who have lost loved ones, so take a extra few minutes to make a call, stop by and visit or send a card. I am sure it would make them feel better knowing someone cared. Of course don’t forget the people in hospitals or nursing homes.
• The Fultondale City Council meeting is Monday at 11:30 a.m.
• Let’s work together to keep our city clean during the holidays. There will be lots of people coming into to town to visit or shop at our shopping center and lets make an effort to make a good impression on them.
• Dustin Alexander of Fultondale had a really bad motorcycle accident a few months ago and is trying to recover from losing his leg. This was devastating to him and his family, and he has no insurance. An account has been set up at Wachovia for donations to help him get a prosthetic leg. If anyone would like to donate, you can just drop by Wachovia or mail the donation. I am sure Dustin and his family would greatly appreciate any help you can provide.
• Happy birthday wishes go out to the following city employees: Bradley Heinrich of the Fultondale Gas Department on Dec. 1; Karl Parsons of the Gas Department on Dec. 5; officer Polly Kavli on Dec. 5; and our dispatcher, Gene Fallon, on Dec. 10. They all do a great job and we hope they have a wonderful birthday.
• I would like to send a special happy birthday wish to Taylor Powell, who will be 18 on Dec. 20. Taylor is the daughter of Kim (Hubbert) and Jeff Powell of Gardendale. Taylor is very active in sports at Gardendale High School and is a great softball and basketball player. Hopefully she will receive a scholarship to a nearby college. We hope she has a wonderful 18th birthday.
• Also, a special happy birthday wish to Brandi Berryhill who will be 15 on Dec. 20. Brandi is also the daughter of Kim (Hubbert) and Jeff Powell of Gardendale. Brandi loves her church, her friends and loves to hang out. We hope she has a great 15th birthday.
