Gardendale

Council opens Miracle League project bids

The Gardendale City Council opened four bids Monday night for a playing surface for the Miracle League ball field at Luman Harris Park.

The received bids included:

• a $166,900 bid, with an alternate bid of $136,700 from Ram Enterprises of Montgomery

• a $106,220 bid from Webb Tennis Courts Inc of Sun City, Fla.

• a $105,300 bid from J.A. Dawson and Co. of Pelham

• a $150,543 bid from Competition Athletic Construction of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Mayor Othell Phillips said the bids would be looked at by committees and a decision would likely be made at the council meeting on Dec. 15.

In other business, the council:

• appointed Emily Cazzola and reappointed Patsy Demumbrum to the library board

• hired Blake Huguley as a part-time employee at the Gardendale Civic Center.



Warrior

Council rezones Fifth Street property

The Warrior City Council voted Monday night to rezone property on Fifth Street belonging to Howard W. Calvert from R1 (residential) to B2 (business). The site is across from Compass Bank. The council also agreed to put firefighter Blair Hughes, who works full-time for the Vestavia Hills Fire Department, on the Warrior Fire Department’s swing list.



Gardendale

Beautification contest deadline is Dec. 8

The deadline to enter the Gardendale Beautification Commission’s Christmas decorating contest is Dec. 8. Judging will be Dec. 15. The contest is for businesses and homeowners in Gardendale city limits. Applications can be picked up at city hall, the public library and the Gardendale Civic Center. They can be returned to city hall or mailed to: Gardendale Beautification Commission, P.O. Box 1681, Gardendale, AL, 35071.



San Antonio, Texas

Airman completes basic training

Air Force Airman Aubrey G. Pearce has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree relating through the Community College of the Air Force. Pearce is the son of Aubrey Pearce of Pell City and Mary Graham of Fultondale.
