If you will be traveling during the holidays, please be safe. We want everyone to be with us for a very long time.

• If you missed the mayor’s prayer breakfast last Saturday morning, then you truly missed a blessing and great fellowship. The Walker Chapel Baptist Quartet sang and did a terrific job. I could have listened to them all day. Gardendale Mayor Othell Phillips was the guest speaker and he did a great job. I would like to personally thank Mrs. Dorothy Byrd, the chamber board members and everyone else responsible for making this event a great success. Also, a special thanks to Burger King, Jacks, Chick-Fil-A and Fultondale Bakery for furnishing the wonderful breakfast that everyone enjoyed. My hat goes off to all our local restaurants; they are always willing to help out for our functions.

• I know a lot of you are familiar with the Alexander family and know that Dustin was in a terrible accident a few weeks ago. I spoke with his mom, Pam, and he is doing better. Dustin had no medical insurance and a special account at Wachovia Bank in Gardendale has been opened, so if you would like to donate to Dustin’s account to help with his medical expenses, I am sure they would greatly appreciate it. His mom has not been able to work since the accident and we know all know how bills can add up. Also, if you know Dustin, send him a get well card, call him or drop by and see him; he needs the moral support.

• Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the Billy Smith family of Skyline Drive. Billy is the father of one of our young gas employees, Anthony. Billy passed away unexpectedly last Thursday at the age of 46. All of us who have lost our parents know the hurt and devastation it brings, so please remember this family in your prayers.

• Mark your calendars for our Christmas tree lighting, which will be held after the city council meeting on Dec. 8. There will be refreshments from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by the tree lighting program. Santa will also be there.

• Fultondale City Hall will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the Christmas holiday.
