ATHENS – Tabernacle Christian overcame some shooting problems with better defense, as they took a 53-37 win over Faith Christian of Athens in an Alabama Christian Education Association game.

“We met out defensive goals, and we were getting good shots, but not getting a good prercentage,” coach David Corbett said. “When the defense wins a game for you early in the season, though, you’re happy, and I’m satisfied with this win. I just hope the shooting comes around later this season.”

The Torches (2-3) held the Falcons to just four points in the opening period, and gradually increased their lead throughout the game. Meanwhile, Tabernacle had 19 steals, including five by Landon Ingle.

Jeremy Holcombe led all scorers with 17 points, and Ingle contributed 16. John White added 11. Holcombe pulled down seven rebounds, as did Phil Green.

Josh London scored 11 points and Joshua Gooch had 10 for the Falcons (4-2).
