No Russell? No worries; Jackets win in a rout

Corner star scorer Nicole Russell was in another country Friday night.

Literally.

The Yellow Jackets’ stalwart was traveling abroad and nowhere to be seen in their area game at Oak Grove, but it didn’t matter as Corner overpowered the undermanned Tigers, holding the hosts to just 13 points in three quarters en route to a 45-23 win.

The Tigers were still smarting from a 91-13 thrashing at the hands of powerhouse Midfield on Thursday, but were unable to muster any offense against the Russell-less Jackets (2-2, 1-0 area).

Mandy Slatton led Corner with 17 points, and Preslie Cruce added 10.

Natasha Homay led Coach Jason White’s Tigers (1-3, 0-2) with 10 points. Corner hosts neighbor and rival Hayden Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
