Don’t forget to look for our police command center located in the Colonial Promenade shopping center. If you happen to have an emergency while you are shopping, there should be an officer somewhere on the property.

• City hall, the gas department and library will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

• I know most of you know and understand this can be a very depressing time of year for a lot of people. Well, I am one of those people and it is very hard for me to enjoy the holidays. If you know anyone who struggles this time of year, please try and understand what they might be going through. If you know anyone who is alone, young or old, if they have recently lost a loved one, make a special effort to stay in touch with them. You would be amazed with what just a kind word or a hug could do for them. If you have an extra few minutes, stop and see them or take them a small token just to let them know you care and they are not forgotten during the holidays.

• We all know that we need to have a will, and if you are like me, you keep putting it off to another day. Let me share some first hand knowledge that I have: If you have property, money, cars or anything of value that you want someone in particular to have, put it in writing. If you just drag around and don’t worry about it, everything can be divided. Well, that normally does not happen. Also, don’t leave everything in one person’s name unless you want only that person to have everything. If you want to make sure your possessions end up to a certain person or persons, make an appointment and have a will made. Do not put this off until tomorrow — we are not promised tomorrow and there are a lot of greedy people out there.

• I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving and spends time with their family, friends and loved ones. If you are going out of town, please be safe.

• I heard on the news that the state troopers will be back on the streets to catch speeders and impaired drivers. If you do not know how much a speeding ticket is from a state trooper, anticipate at least $200. Take your time and slow down.

• We would like to send a very happy 8th birthday wish to Zoe Rain Anderson on Nov. 26. She is the granddaughter of Councilman Darrell and Tammy Hubbert, the daughter of Shea and Jaren Anderson and the big sister of the talented Sky. We have been blessed to watch this beautiful baby grow into a sweet, beautiful 8-year-old who is very smart and caring. We hope she has a great birthday. Her parents have done a great job.

• Get-well wishes go to Dianne Bolden, Polly Goodwin and Margaret Gravlee. Please remember them in your prayers.

• A special happy belated birthday wish goes to our city attorney, Charlie Waldrep. Charlie is a great attorney and friend and we hope he had a great birthday and many, many more.
