Three people were arrested earlier this week on burglary charges after an alert resident called the police.
Det. David Rogers of the Fultondale Police Department said a call was received on Tuesday, shortly after noon, from a Fultondale resident who reported a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of Teresa Drive and Tarrant Road.
“Before we could get over there, they called back and said a neighbor’s house had been broken into and some black males were in the woods,” Rogers said.
When officers arrived to the 3200 block of Teresa Drive, they observed a maroon Cadillac parked on the side of the road with a man in the car. Upon questioning the driver, two more suspects were spotted hiding near the house. The suspects were later arrested with assistance from the Gardendale Police Department.
Those arrested were: Terry Washington Jr., 22, of Center Point; Demario McCall, 21, of Birmingham; and Edwin Connely, 20, of Center Point. All three men were charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
In addition to the burglary on Teresa Drive, the Gardendale Police Department is also investigating another burglary that happened on Tarrant Road. Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker said that burglary is still under investigation.
Walker said burglaries typically increase around the holiday season and said residents can safeguard their homes through use of a functioning alarm system or by securing door frames and deadbolt locks by using a reinforced steel plate.
Rogers advised residents to place a mark on tools or appliances that only the owner would recognize and to record serial numbers or take photos of valuables and appliances.
