Like all other municipalities in northern Jefferson County, Morris and Warrior citizens saw their council members for the next four years sworn in on Nov. 3.
Morris Municipal Judge Milton E. Barker did the honors in Morris.
Milton swore in Mayor Craig Drummonds and council members Clovis Laney, Joe Pylant, Ray Densmore, Lynn Posey Aguirre and Phillip Dillard.
Laney, Pylant and Densmore were incumbents who ran unopposed in the August election.
Aquirre and Dillard also ran unopposed. They replace Doyle Beasley and David Reilly, two council members who did not run for re-election in August.
Morris’ meeting was short and sweet as the council took care of a few housekeeping matters.
The council adopted an organizational ordinance for 2008-2012 and passed a resolution naming People’s Bank as the depository.
In addition, the council appointed Drummonds to the Cullman Jefferson Gas Board.
Committees have not yet been assigned to the council members.
The City of Morris’ next council meeting will be at Nov. 25, 6 p.m., at Morris City Hall.
Warrior
At about the same time farther north, Circuit Judge Tom King was swearing in the Warrior City Council.
All members of the council are incumbents: Mayor Rena Hudson, Jerry Bailey, Brad Fuller, Johnny Ragland, James Jett and Theodore Hines.
Although there were no personnel changes on the Warrior council, they did stir things up a bit.
Hudson appointed Ragland as mayor pro tem. Hines served in that capacity during the last term.
The mayor also swapped committee heads for some departments.
Each committee consists of a chairman and two other council members. The new committees, with chairmen listed first, are:
• Health, human resources and sanitation: Hines, Bailey and Jett
• Police: Ragland, Bailey and Fuller
• Fire: Fuller, Hines and Jett
• Park and recreation: Jett, Fuller and Ragland
• Public works: Bailey, Hines and Ragland
In addition, the council reappointed Jett to the Cullman Jefferson Gas Board.
The City of Warrior’s next council meeting will be Nov. 17, 7 p.m., at Warrior City Hall, with a public pre-council session at 6:30 p.m.
