Helen Kathleen Cantrell Burleson, age 84 of Gardendale passed away Sunday, November 9. She was born and reared in Hackleburg. She married in 1941 and moved to Birmingham in 1942. She was an active member of Ensley First United Methodist Church until 1989, when she and her husband moved to Gardendale. Since then she has been an active member of Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, in the Open Door Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She retired after 28 years with the U.S. Government, Selective Service System and was the Administrative Supervisor and Auditor for the middle district of Alabama. Mrs. Burleson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glover Burleson, her parents; William Arthur and Helen Keller Campbell Cantrell, and brother; William Arthur Cantrell, Jr. She is survived by very special nieces and nephews; William L. (Nancy) Cantrell, John K. (Diane) Cantrell, Candy Cantrell, Rhonda (Jack) Bates, Douglas Howell, Dwight (Janice) Howell, Jerry (Sandy) Freeman, Treva (Bryan) Luke, Brent, Bob and Mike Burleson, sisters-in-law; Mary Jo Boyd and Margie Burleson, brother-in-law; Morris (Catherine) Burleson and a very special great-nephew; Tyler (Ashley) Cantrell. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12 at Rideout’s Gardendale Chapel at 1 p.m. with entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum, Rideout’s Gardendale Chapel directing. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
