Fultondale suffers tough loss at home

The Fultondale Wildcats (5-3, 4-2) fell to American Christian Friday, 22-14, but still retain their playoff berth.
The Wildcats’ C.J. Mixon scored the first points of the night on a 58-yard run.
Junior Jonathan Craig made the two-point conversion, putting the score at 8-0.
During the second quarter the two teams held each other off and the scoreboard did not change.
At the beginning of the second half, Fultondale suffered some penalty troubles.
American Christian took full advantage by scoring on a 6-yard pass. The PAT run failed, making the score 8-6 Fultondale.
The Patriots continued their scoring streak following an 18-yard pass that resulted in a touchdown. Their point-after pass was good, opening the gap to 14-8.
In the fourth quarter, American Christian again took control with a 17-yard pass and a good point-after pass. The score was 22-8.
Fultondale’s Wildcats did not give up. They scored the final points of the contest on a 3-yard run by Craig.
The point-after failed, bringing the final score to 22-14 before the Wildcats ran out the clock.
Mixon was Fultondale’s rushing leader, with 98 yards on nine carries. He had one touchdown.
Craig had 54 yards on 13 carries, including one touchdown. He also made a 2-point conversion run.
Chris Barber had 49 yards on six carries.
The passing leader was Mixon, with 50 return yards.
On defense, Montez Edison had eight tackles including a quarterback sack and a quarterback hurry.
Joey Donaldson also had eight tackles and a sack, while Mixon had six tackles.
The Wildcats will appear in the postseason, but not before they travel to Pickens County in region play next week.
