Fultondale

Fire department uses rescue dog to track lost woman

The Fultondale Fire Department recently employed the use of a rescue dog to find a missing woman.

The department received a call about the woman on Oct. 8 at about 7 p.m.

Fire Chief A.C. “Buster” Crumpton said the woman, reportedly in her late 60s, was walking her two dogs and got lost on her way home. “We had a witness tell us she was going down the road after dark and that’s how we found her,” he said.

The department then called Walker County Rescue Service, a volunteer organization, and a rescue dog was brought down.

“The dog picked up the trail and we found her a mile from Walker Chapel Road,” Crumpton said. “Her two dogs had stayed with her.”

Fultondale volunteer firefighter Will King said without the use of the rescue dog, it could have taken hours of walking through wooded areas to find the woman.
