CORNER — Friday night, the Corner Yellow Jackets suffered their sixth loss of the season to the hard-hitting Speake Bobcats 32-3.

“Well their very good football team,” said Yellow Jacket head coach Jeff Smith. “They pushed us around physically up front on both sides of the football and we didn’t block anybody. So we lost.”

The scoring started on Speake’s first possession of the game. Running back Armadeus Polk ran it in from 29 yards out for the game’s opening touchdown. The play completed a 7-play, 56-yard drive. Corner’s Josh Self was able to block the point-after kick to keep the score at 6-0.

Speake scored again on their first possession of the second quarter. This time running back Joseph Hyde ran it up the middle 39 yards for the score.

The touchdown completed a 4-play, 67-yard drive. After Armadeus Polk ran in the 2-point conversion the Bobcats led 14-0.

The Corner offense was able to control the ball on the next offensive series with a 14-play drive. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets they were unable to score.

Right before the end of the half, the Jackets were able to stop a Speake drive when Jordan Shipp intercepted a Bobcat pass and returned it 85 yards as time ran out in the half.

Unfortunately, once again, the Yellow Jackets were unable to score and went into the half down 14-0.

The Speake Bobcats controlled the second half. On the opening offensive series of the game, Speake scored again. Armadeus Polk ran it in from 1-yard out for the touchdown. The score completed a 11-play, 55-yard drive.

The scoring drive took up the first 10 minutes of the third quarter and gave the Bobcats a 20-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Speake offense put together another long scoring drive.

The score came when Speake’s Jonathan Gillespie ran it in from two yards out. The play completed a 9-play, 44-yard drive and made the score 26-0.

The Speake defense also was able to score. The Bobcats scored when John Milsap blocked a Corner punt and Joseph Hyde picked up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. This gave Speake a 32-0 lead.

Corner finally got on the scoreboard late in the game. The Yellow Jackets scored when kicker Katelyn Geddings kicked 31-yard field goal to help make the final score 32-3. The field goal completed a 8-play, 31-yard drive for the home team.

Despite the loss Corner’s defense did have some highlights. Josh Self recorded 11 tackles and a blocked a point-after attempt.

Also, Shon Long recorded 10 tackles and Jared Causey recorded eight tackles.

The Corner Yellow Jackets return to region play next Friday, when they match up with Fayette County on the road.
