This Friday night, the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils will take on the Hayden Wildcats at their homecoming game.
Mortimer Jordan will be coming into the game with a 3-3 record following their close victory last week over the Moody Blue Devils.
The Wildcats have had a tough season as they come into this game with a 1-5 record overall and 1-4 in region play.
They suffered a homecoming loss last Friday against the Curry Yellow Jackets with a devastating 24-0 blow.
Mortimer Jordan head coach Greg Watts says not to count Hayden out.
“I know that (Hayden’s) Owen Hargett had about 20 tackles last week, so this should be a really good homecoming game,” said Watts.
Mortimer Jordan’s Dantrell Purifoy carries the Devils on offense with 78 rushes this year, with 501 yards and an average of 6.4 yards per carry.
The Blue Devils quarterback Blake Renshaw holds a record of 28 passes for 14 completions with 179 yards, one interception and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Zach Payne and Jordan Sands are holding the rope with 47 tackles each over the past five games, averaging 9.4 tackles per game. Payne has had one sack.
Following close behind is Justin Mack with 43 tackles and an average of 8.6 tackles per game.
On Hayden’s sidelines, Isaac Vetich leads the rushing team with 39 rushes for 227 yards.
He averages 5.8 yards per carry and 45.4 yards of rushing per game. He has added one touchdown to the team this year.
Defensively, Matt Brown leads with 51 tackles and 2.5 sacks thus far in the season.
Owen Hargett has a total of 50 tackles and averages 10 tackles per game.
This game should prove to be a deciding factor in regional play.
“It’s our homecoming this week, so we’re really excited about that,” said Watts about Friday night’s game. “Hayden is playing good football this year, especially their defense. We hope everyone comes out and supports us.”
Friday night will tell if the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils’ offense can hold off the strong Hayden Wildcat defense.
The game is at 7 p.m at Mortimer Jordan’s Trotter Stadium.
