Torches race to 26-0 lead, blast Flint Hill

The Tabernacle Torches used their ground game Friday night in a 48-14 defeat of Flint Hill.
Tabernacle’s rushers gained 281 yards in the contest on 36 carries. Adding 91 passing yards to the total, Tabernacle gained 372 yards.
In the first quarter, quarterback Landon Ingle put up Tabernacle’s first points with a 5-yard run ending in a touchdown. Dylan Hargreaves made the 2-point conversion pass.
Later in the first, Hargreaves threw to Jarrod Higginbothom for a 21-yard touchdown. The conversion failed.
Tabernacle continued the trouncing when Matt Wade added six points with a 58-yard touchdown run on the next possession.
Still in the first, Hargreaves ran in a 52-yard punt return for Tabernacle’s fourth touchdown. The conversion failed, ending the first quarter with Tabernacle in command 26-0.
The Torches kept control in the second quarter when Hargreaves passed to Wade for a 20-yard touchdown. The conversion failed.
Flint Hill got onto the board in the second quarter with a 41-yard touchdown pass, ending the quarter, trailing 32-8.
In the third quarter, Tabernacle’s Wade ran in a 63-yard touchdown. Hargreaves carried in the 2-point conversion, upping the score to 40-8.
In the fourth quarter, a Hargreaves to Higginbothom 28-yard pass ended in a touchdown, followed by a 2-point conversion ran in by Wade.
The final score was a 10-yard touchdown pass for Flint Hill.
Wade was the Torches’ rushing leader, with 181 yards on 13 attempts and scoring two touchdowns.
Bradley White led Tabernacle’s defenders, with five tackles, six assists and eight sacks.
Jarrod Higginbothom had seven tackles, two assists and two sacks, while Frank Doganiero had six tackles, two assists, one tackle for loss and a blocked punt.
The Torches had a total of 13 first downs, as they improved to 5-1 overall. They will travel to Panama City Christian next week.
