The Corner Yellow Jackets fell behind early in their Friday night match against Haleyville, due mainly to the efforts of Jeremy White the Haleyville Lions outstanding running back.

The Lions raced to a 21-0 lead behind White’s play.

He ran for over 150 yards, with more than 100 of those coming in the first half of play, as Haleyville rolled 34-0.

Haleyville put up a 21-point quarter on three touchdowns by White, the first on a 37-yard run followed by two more 5-yard runs.

Their early lead put Corner in a difficult come-from-behind position, from which they never recovered.

In the second quarter Haleyville scored again this time on a 33-yard interception return by Vaughn Whiteside.

Corner quarterback Zack White had his pass tipped and it then fell into Whiteside’s waiting hands, before he raced to the end zone.

Brett Bryson’s point-after kick was blocked, but Haleyville led at the half, 27-0.

In the second half, it was more of the same, as the Jacket’s defense didn’t have an answer for White.

Then in the third quarter White added to his team total by running the ball 8-yards for the game’s final touchdown.

The point-after was good this time making the score Haleyville 34, Corner 0.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets slipped to 1-5 on the season. In addition, they remained winless in region play.

Next week, Corner will host Speake in a non-region game.
