Escaped inmate back in custody
A Gardendale inmate that escaped on Aug. 18 is now back in custody. Kevin Dale Carter, who had earned trustee privileges, escaped from the jail and was likely picked up at the jail by someone else. His orange jail jumpsuit was found at the corner of Parker and Tarrant roads. Carter was three days into a 24-day sentence on failure to appear charges. Days after his escape, Carter was located in the Bay County jail in Florida after being arrested on probation violation charges, but was later released again. Lt. Chuck Denham of the Gardendale Police Department said Carter was picked up on Thursday in Bessemer and was charged with second-degree escape, which carries a $7,500 bond.
