Teacher receives award

Lisa Hargett, a fourth-grade teacher at Hayden Elementary School, recently received the 2008 Jenice Riley Memorial Scholarship. Hargett, who has been teaching for 15 years, will use the scholarship to fund the History Alive project, which will provide the school and community with a dramatic reenactment of the chronological accounts and lives of important historical American figures. “By fostering public attention and dialogues on freedom, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens voiced from historical figures, students and the community will advance their awareness and understanding of American history and civics,” Hargett said.



Brookside

Cleanup effort to be held Oct. 4

The Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership will sponsor a fall cleanup event at Five Mile Creek in Brookside on Oct. 4 at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Five Mile Creek Canoe Company at the Brookside ballpark. A free hot dog lunch will be provided.
