According to Mortimer Jordan head softball coach Laura Rickman, the fund raising drive to purchase rings for the state champion Lady Blue Devil softball team is complete.

Rickman said the school, the coaches and the players and their families would like to thank everyone who contributed to the fund. She noted the girls wouldn’t be receiving their rings with the great support they’ve received from the local community.

Rickman said there will be a pre-game ceremony on Oct. 3, just before the Blue Devil football team hosts Moody, in which the state championship team will be honored and each player on the squad will receive her state championship ring.

The Lady Devils swept to the Class 5A title this May, as they finished the season with a 50-4 record and whipped Hartselle, 11-3 in the final game of the state tournament.

The title was the second softball title in school history.
