After securing their first 6A win of the season, the Gardendale Rockets will hit the road this week and travel to Chilton County to take on the Class 5A, Tigers.

Rocket head coach Chris Fancher said last week’s win was a result of eliminating mistakes and cutting out the penalties that hurt the Rockets against both Hoover and Vestavia Hills.

The Rockets suffered only two errors in the first three quarters last Friday as they raced to a 22-7 lead, one was a fumble and the other the lone penalty.

This week, the Rockets will face a Tigers club still stinging from a 58-20 loss to Carver High School last week.

The Tigers (0-3) have struggled on offense this season, averaging less than 200 yards a game so far this season.

In their loss to Carver, two of the Tiger’s three scores came via the Chilton defense.

The Rockets run game could have a big night Friday, as the Tigers allowed more than 400 yards rushing last week.

Against Oak Mountain, using a third different offensive line in as many weeks, the run game began clicking as Trey Hilliard topped the 100-yard mark for the first time in ‘08. He also scored twice.
