Gardendale
Splash pad grand opening set for today
The ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening for Gardendale’s splash pad will be today at 11 a.m. at Celebration Park on Fieldstown Road. The project represents one of the largest splash pads in the state and the first in north Jefferson County. A kindergarten class is tentatively scheduled to be on hand to be the first group to take advantage of the children’s water attraction. The $260,000 project is a 6,000-square-foot pad, complete with a variety of water features, and uses a circulatory water system to recycle water. The park will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to dusk. It will be closed Mondays for maintenance.
Warrior
Council voices support for ‘Constitution Week’
The city of Warrior proved that it supports the Constitution of the United States on Monday night when Mayor Rena Hudson read aloud a Constitution Week proclamation. Constitution Week begins today. In other business, the council voted to keep on two part-time public works employees that had been hired for the summer. The employees will remain part-time.
Brookside
Cleanup effort to be held Oct. 4
The Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership will sponsor a fall cleanup event at Five Mile Creek in Brookside on Oct. 4 at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Five Mile Creek Canoe Company at the Brookside ballpark. A free hot dog lunch will be provided. The volunteer event helps restore Five Mile Creek and raise awareness about the ongoing development of the 28-mile Five Mile Creek Greenway, according to a press release.
