Hayden defensive lineman Sean Davis was named as one of the Defensive Player of the Week runners-up by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, for the third week of the prep football season.
Davis, a senior, had 11 tackles, two fumble recoveries and was credited with 1.5 sacks in a 24-0 win over Brewer.
The victory was the first of the season for the Wildcats and evened their 5A, Region 6 record at 1-1.
Davis first fumble recovery set up a Wildcat touchdown as Hayden rolled to its first region win since defeating Curry in the ninth week of the 2007 season.
On opposite side of the ball, Fultondale’s Jonathan Craig was a runner-up for the Offensive Player of the Week award, after rushing for 197 yards and two scores in the Wildcats 23-7 win over Hale County. Craig has rushed for 504 yards this season, an average of 168 yards a game.
