MORRIS — Should the Mortimer Jordan defense have nightmares this coming week, they’re sure to see Erwin quarterback Anthony Bowie in those dreams.

Bowie accounted for 401 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as the Eagles picked up a big road region win.

Bowie threw for two scores and ran for two others, as the Eagles, who trailed only once at 7-6, went to the air early and often and built a 28-9 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Erwin worked the ground game more, as they tried to run the clock and keep the Jordan offense off the field.

Jordan sophomore Dantrell Purifoy scored two touchdowns and Desmond Brown rushed for 101 yards, but turnovers on offense and Bowie making key plays against the Blue Devil’s defense proved to be Jordan’s undoing.

After forcing a three-and-out on the game’s opening drive, the Eagles marched 68 yards in nine plays to open the scoring. Bowie capped the drive with a 13-yard run.

Jordan responded with a 7-play, 60-yard drive, all on the ground, to take a one-point lead at 7-6 with 2:37 left in the first quarter.

Purifoy got the touchdown on a 2-yard run. Desmond Brown set up the score by breaking loose on a 48-yard run to the Erwin 4-yard line on a third-and-nine play.

Brown took a quick pitch and raced around the right end, before being caught from behind inside the five.

On the next drive, Erwin took the lead for good, when Bowie connected with Sadaruis Brown on a deep route.

Jordan forced a punt on the following possession, which led to a Blue Devil safety on a bad snap from center, but the Eagles would put the game away with two second quarter scores to take a 28-9 lead into the half.

Quan Owens scored on a 10-yard run to finish off a 5-play, 90-yard drive, highlighted by Bowie’s 42-yard pass to Brown to the Jordan 25.
