After a huge 54-point loss to open region play, the Corner Yellow Jackets hope to play well early this week. Should they do so, they could likely regain the confidence they built up in a week one win over Sumiton Christian.

“We need some good things to happen for us early in this game,” Corner head coach Jeff Smith said. “We have to establish the run. We have time to throw the ball and have to run the ball a little bit. Those two things will be key for us this week.”

Smith said the Jackets blocking broke down last week, not only in the line, but also the blocking by the receivers was not as good as it could be.

“We’re playing a big physical team this week that is much bigger up front on both offense and defense than we are,” Smith said. “We have to match their physical play and block much better than last week.”

This week’s game will be the Jackets home opener.

“We need to get off the road and play here,” Smith said. “We’re excited to be at home.”
