Fultondale
Wreck shuts down interstate
A Thursday afternoon wreck briefly shut down Interstate 65 south in Fultondale. A police official said it was a one-car vehicle accident, in which the vehicle overturned. A passenger in the backseat was reportedly injured and was airlifted to UAB hospital. The interstate had to be shut down temporarily to allow the helicopter to land. No other information was available as of press time.

Bragg open house set for Monday
Bragg Middle School will have an open house on Monday for parents. It starts at 6 p.m. start in gym. Parents will meet their children’s teachers and see the classrooms.

Local veterans selected to take Honor Flight next week
Two Gardendale residents are scheduled to take the next Honor Flight on Sept. 10. Charlie Turner, a veteran of the U.S. Army and Bernie Murphee, an Air Force veteran, will join other honorees on a trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial. This will represent the third Honor Flight of 2008, according to a press release. Also on the flight will be the first married couple, Lloyd and Mildred Fuhrmeister of Shelby County, who both served in the U.S. Navy during the war. Honor Flight, a non-profit organization, selects veterans on a first-come, first-serve basis. Terminally ill veterans who are not too ill to travel may be moved up in priority.
