Gardendale



Concert

Aug. 30 Free bluegrass concert at the Gardendale Civic Center sponsored by the senior center and civic center for senior adults and their families. Glenn Tolbert, Kevin Atkins, and Kelly Fowler will sing. For information call 631-7240.



Singing

Aug. 31 Fieldstown Church of God will hold a singing on Aug. 31 at 1:30 p.m. with Grace Church Family. For more information call 631-6013.



Archery Shoot

Sept. 13 If you’re looking for a great place to shoot your bow, then check out the 3D Archery Shoot on Sept. 13 at Gardendale First Baptist Church “Camp David” Jones Chapel. Admission is free. There will be divisions for all skill levels- beginners to pro. Registration begins at 8 a.m. For more information contact, Allen Oakley at 488-8716.



GriefShare

Sept. 7 The First Baptist Church of Gardendale is offering a fall session of GriefShare for those who have lost a loved one. The sessions are designed to help the participants to go from mourning to joy. The cost is $12 for the workbook. Childcare is also available. The group will meet starting Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. in room 1025 of the educational building. For a brochure or further information call Sherry at 488-8715.



Reunion

Oct. 3, 4 Gardendale’s Alumni from the Class of 1968 are planning reunion activities the week-end of homecoming. They will not only participate in the parade, but will attend the game and enjoy homecoming festivities. 1968 was the first year that GHS had a graduating class and this is the group of students who experienced all the “firsts.” A large number of these graduates remained in Gardendale and have made a big contribution to the development of our city. They plan to attend the homecoming game on Oct. 3, then have a dinner and entertainment at the Exhibition Hall of the Gardendale Civic Center on Oct. 4. Mount Olive



Concert

Sept. 6 Daystar Church International is hosting a free Christian concert Sept. 6, 6:30 p.m., featuring Inside/Out. Concessions will be available. The church is on Shady Grove Road off of Mt. Olive Road. For more information, call 563-6605.



Donations for school

Now-Sept. 15 Superior Bank on Mt. Olive Road is collecting school supplies for Mt. Olive Elementary School from now until Sept. 15. K-5 supply lists are available at the bank, or drop off any supplies that the school can use. There is also a donation box to contribute cash.



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Warrior



Labor Day celebration

Sept. 1 Fireworks Unlimited LLC and County Line Fuel Z are sponsoring a Labor Day celebration in Warrior at the open area behind Fuel Z off of Cane Creek Road. The festivities begin around 10 a.m. and end with a big fireworks show at 9 p.m. There will be games, food for sale by Big Daddy’s Bar-B-Q and more. There is no charge to attend.

Sept. 13 Hayden High School will hold an alumni reunion on Sept. 13 at Hayden High School at 1 p.m. for all former students. For more information, call 647-3338.



Churches of the Nazarene

Sept. 13 The Birmingham Zone Churches of the Nazarene will hold a combined celebration service Sept. 13 at Birmingham First Church of the Nazarene. In addition to this combined celebration each Nazarene church around the world will be celebrating on Oct. 5. For more information call 790-5180.



Festival

Oct. 9-11 The 2008 Saint George Middle Eastern Food Festival will be Oct. 9, 10 and 11. Please mark your calendars. More information to come.



Friends of Rickwood Caverns

If you are interested in learning what friends of Rickwood Caverns State Park is doing to improve the park, come out and lend your support. Friends meet every 3rd Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the park office. This month’s meeting will be on Aug. 19. We welcome your support and encourage your attendance.
