The Fultondale Lady Wildcats got their 2008 season to rousing start, as they whipped both Pleasant Grove and Oak Grove on Thursday.

Fultondale’s (2-0) play behind the service line keyed the victories, as the Lady Wildcats served up 35 aces in the two matches, led by Diamond Stanley with nine and Jessica Harris with eight.

“We started our season out very well against a couple of good county teams,” Fultondale head coach Melanie Gearhart said.

Fultondale 25-25,

Pleasant Grove 15-16


The Lady Wildcats served up 17 aces, as junior setter Harris led all players with seven, followed by Stanley with five, Britani Howell with four, Monica Roscoe with two and Haley Hill with one.

Howell led the attack with three kills, followed by Hill with two.

Harris handed out four assists.

Fultondale 25-24-15,

Oak Grove 22-26-13


The Lady Wildcats won a nail-bitter, behind strong play at the net.

“The girls really had to fight this one out,” Gearhart said. “If we play like this, I’m looking forward to great things this season.”

Howell socred on eight kills, part of a team total of 17 for the match. Stanley had four, Hill had three and Jordan Westmiller had two.

HIll also added four blocks. Harris had four assists and Hill added two more.

The Lady ‘Cats strong serving continued, as Fultondale collected 18 against Oak Grove, led by Hill with five, Stanley and Shelbi Smith with four each, Howell added three and Harris and Roscoe added one each.
