Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday. Gardendale has plenty of choices for candidates, so there is no excuse. Go make your voices heard.
• Organizers are trying to put together a Kimberly Elementary School reunion. Anyone that lived in Kimberly during the 1940s and 1950s, please call Doris (Reno) Whisonant at 647-7061 or Patsy (Crane) Thomas at 647-5907.
• Happy belated birthday to our own Evangeline Sloan on Aug. 18. She turned 77 years old. Evangeline still keeps her garden in great shape and tries a new plant every year. We hope you have a great birthday and many more to come.
• Happy anniversary to Emily and Colin on Aug. 26. This is their second anniversary of their marriage.
• Aegis Women’s Club of Gardenale is pleased to announce that they will be accepting new members for the upcoming 2008-2009 year. The club is a service-oriented club and has served the Gardendale area for more than 20 years. They stay very active in the community by planning fund raisers in which proceeds go directly to the classrooms of our schools which include Gardendale Elementary, Mt. Olive Elementary, Snow Rogers Elementary, Bragg Middle and Gardendale High School. They provide college scholarships for deserving high school students, help needy families and participate in service projects for our great city. If you are interested in being a part of Aegis, please contact Lori Beason at 907-9579.
• Gardendale’s Alumni from the Class of 1968 are planning reunion activities the weekend of homecoming. They will not only participate in the parade, but will attend the game and enjoy homecoming festivities. 1968 was the first year that GHS had a graduating class and this is the group of students who experienced all the “firsts.” They wrote the Alma Mater, chose the school colors and mascot, chartered all the clubs and published the first edition of the annual Rendezvous. A large number of these graduates remained in Gardendale and have made a big contribution to the development of our city. They plan to attend the homecoming game on Oct. 3, then have a dinner and entertainment at the Exhibition Hall of the Gardendale Civic Center on Oct. 4. For information on this reunion, please contact Lynda (Boyd) Lyle at 631-0284 or Doris (Stack) Murrell at 631-6865.
