This is the big weekend – today is the day of the Founder’s Day Festival at Black Creek Park from 4 to 9 p.m. There will be fun for all ages, music, arts and crafts, good food, a car show and a Kid’s Zone. The festivities will begin with Mayor Lowery welcoming everyone, followed by a flag ceremony recognizing the Armed Forces. The Star Spangled Banner will be performed by the Fultondale High School band, the Chamber of Commerce will be recognized and the band will play the fight song. We will have singing clowns, Sacred Harvest, a dance team, Jessica Reike, Marian Booth, Harrison, 4 Harmony, Walker Chapel Quartet, David Ashley the Steel City Quartet and a prize drawing. A Kid Zone arm band can be purchased for $5 and they can play for as long as they like.

• For those of you that would like to attend council meetings, there will be one on Aug. 25 at 11. There are two council meetings per month – the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. and the fourth Monday of the month at 11 a.m., unless we have to change. City Hall will be closed on Sept. 1 for Labor Day and on Sept. 11 in honor of those that lost their lives on 9/11 and the heroes that helped so many.

• I have a quick reminder for pet owners — Please keep your dogs on a leash or in a fenced in area. We do have an ordinance against dogs running at large and if caught, they will be taken to animal control. You know there are people that do not have pets and do not want to be bothered with someone else’s. Be courteous to your neighbors.

• Word is that Full Moon Barbecue expects to open Oct. 1. Tony said he is always taking applications, so if you are interested in working there just go by and see him. If you have not met Tony, he is a super nice man and we are excited to have Full Moon locate in Fultondale.

• For those of you who don’t know, Butterflies now has a Tea Room that is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 2 p.m. For reservations, call 841-5818. If you haven’t been there, you need to try it — it is very nice and really good.

• I need to make a correction on where Ynema and Edwin Thrasher moved to. They moved to Guntersville Lake, not Smith Lake, and I misspelled her name — it is Ynema. Sorry, I still love you. Also if anyone would like to call them, their number is (256) 582-5941. I am sure they would love to hear from their friends.

• Get well wishes go to Darrell Bates, who had gall bladder surgery Wednesday. We hope he gets better and back to work real soon.

• Get well wishes also go to Jeff Fuller, who was in a car accident last weekend. We hope he gets better real soon.

• Special happy birthday wishes goes to Vicki (Fuller) Moon on Aug. 24. We hope she has a wonderful birthday. She is the daughter of Betty and Lynn Fuller and her family loves her very much.

• A special happy belated birthday wish goes to Mary Elizabeth King on August 17. I have first-hand knowledge that she was proposed to last week at Panama City Beach by her special guy, Keith Headrick. I wish them the very best and congratulations. Mary is the beautiful, sweet daughter of Wayne and Brenda King and sister to Allison.

• Special happy birthday wishes go to: Mr. Roland Glasgo, who will be 91 years young on Sept. 3; Mr. Gene Arwood who will be 81 years young on Sept. 4; and to Mr. Rubin Gray, who will be 82 years young on Sept. 7. We hope they have wonderful birthdays and many more to come.

• A special happy birthday wish to Mr. Richard Mullins, owner of Mullins Heating and Air on Friday, Aug. 22. If you need a dependable, honest heating and air company, give him a call. We hope he has a great birthday.

• A special thanks to all my friends who have called to welcome me back.

• I would like to send a special hello to my Aunt Margaret Hogeland, who now lives in Panama City Beach. I miss her and love her.

• Remember if you have news, anniversaries, birthdays or reunions, let me know.
