Consignment Sale

Aug. 20-23 Kingdom Kids Consignment Sale will take place at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon UMC with receiving on Aug 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; public sale Aug. 22 from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon. Sellers receive 70 percent off. All proceeds benefit missions. Dinner and a Movie

Gardendale Friendship United Methodist Church will sponsor a dinner and a movie for the children every Friday night at 6 p.m. If you need assistance please call 285-9340.



Concert

Archery Shoot

Sept. 13 If you’re looking for a great place to shoot your bow, then check out the 3D Archery Shoot on Sept. 13 at Gardendale First Baptist Church “Camp David” Jones Chapel. Admission is free. Reunion

Oct. 3, 4 Gardendale’s Alumni from the Class of 1968 are planning reunion activities the week-end of homecoming. They will not only participate in the parade, but will attend the game and enjoy homecoming festivities. 1968 was the first year that GHS had a graduating class and this is the group of students who experienced all the “firsts.” They wrote the alma mater, chose the school colors and mascot, chartered all the clubs and published the first edition of the annual Rendezvous. A large number of these graduates remained in Gardendale and have made a big contribution to the development of our city. They plan to attend the homecoming game on Oct. 3, then have a dinner and entertainment at the Exhibition Hall of the Gardendale Civic Center on Oct. 4. Magic Show

Aug. 15-17 Beechwood Baptist Church in Mt. Olive will be having a free magic show on Aug. 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. with Scott Humston. For more information call 631-4531.



Donations for school

Now-Sept. 15 Superior Bank on Mt. Olive Road is collecting school supplies for Mt. Olive Elementary School from now until Sept. 15. K-5 supply lists are available at the bank, or drop off any supplies that the school can use. There is also a donation box to contribute cash.

Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.

Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for 6 weeks to 4-years-old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We follow the Jefferson County School system calendar, so we are out during all of their breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

Open House, Fundraiser

Aug. 26 North Jefferson Middle School will host an open house Aug. 26, 6 p.m., in the gym. All parents are invited to the open house to meet their children’s teachers. Also, the cheerleaders will have a spaghetti supper the same night, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria Plates are $5 each and include spaghetti, roll and dessert. Friends of Rickwood Caverns

If you are interested in learning what friends of Rickwood Caverns State Park is doing to improve the park, come out and lend your support. Friends meet every third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the park office.
