City council unopposed
The Morris City Council adopted resolutions Tuesday naming five council members to serve beginning in November: Clovis Laney, Joe Pylant, Charles Ray Densmore, Lynn Posey Aguirre and Phillip Dillard. The five are unopposed in the August election. The council also adopted a resolution to appoint election officers and voted to pay the chief election officer $150 and all election clerks $100. There was also a first reading of an ordinance that sets fines for owners whose dogs bark “to the great discomfort of the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.” The next council meeting was changed to Aug. 28, 6 p.m. at City Hall because of the municipal elections.

Gardendale residents can feel a little more safe in the event of severe weather. A new severe weather siren was installed at the soccer complex on Fieldstown Road this week. Mayor Kenny Clemons said the additional siren will provide additional coverage to the southern part of the city and to Brookside.
