Morris volunteer firefighters have apparently agreed to forego the small amount of pay that they previously received.
Council members voted Tuesday to repeal a 2006 resolution that allowed volunteer firefighters to receive $10 for each call to which they responded.
Effective Tuesday, firefighters will no longer receive the stipend for responding to fire calls.
“This was per the fire department’s request,” said Mayor Craig Drummonds at the meeting.
The department has 10 volunteer firefighters.
Town officials said that the total reimbursements averaged about $1,200 a month.
In other business, the council:
• set qualification fees for the upcoming municipal elections. Candidates for mayor must pay a $50 qualification fee and candidates for city council must pay a $35 qualification fee. Qualification dates are July 1-15.
• adopted an ordinance designating five city council places, numbered one through five
• adopted a resolution establishing the use of electronic vote-counting devices for the August municipal elections.
