I hope that everyone enjoys a safe and happy Independence Day. Take a little time to pray and thank God for those who have, will and are currently fighting for our freedom as a nation. We are a blessed people.
• Please continue to be in prayer for the Johnson and Hall families during the death of Lorene Johnson. She was a kind and loving woman and she will be greatly missed.
• The Love family reunion will take place today from 2-6 p.m. at Enon Baptist Church in the old sanctuary.
• The Gardendale Civitan Club will be selling Boston butts June 30-July 4 for $30 each. The money raised will go toward the construction of the Miracle League baseball field. The butts can be picked up at the Gardendale Civic Center June 30-July 3 from noon to 7 p.m. and on July 4 from 8 a.m. until all remaining butts are sold. To order in advance, call James Walker at 631-5814 and leave a message and phone number.
• The Leeds Arts Council (LAC) will honor its July gallery artist Sue Taylor White of Gardendale with an opening reception Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The show will be at LAC’s Theatre and Arts Center at 8140 Parkway Drive in downtown Leeds. The public is invited. There is no admission charge. The paintings will be available for purchase. For more information, call LAC at 699-1892.
• A youth summer basketball camp will be held July 15-17 from 8:30 a.m. to noon for rising first through sixth graders. The cost is $20 and the camp will be held at Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. For more information, call 631-7631.
