The Gardendale Police Department is investigating the Sunday night robbery of an Odum Road restaurant.

Lt. Chuck Denham said four men were involved in the robbery of Zaxby’s, located at 885 Odum Road. The robbery happened at about 11:20 p.m. as employees were closing the store.

Denham said two men entered the restaurant, while two stayed outside. All of the suspects, described as black males, wore masks over their faces.

One of the suspects allegedly held a gun to a restaurant employee’s head and demanded money. There were about four employees inside the store at the time.

After taking an undetermined amount of money from the store, the suspects fled in a gray Oldsmobile. Employees then called in the robbery just as Sgt. Bryan Lynch was traveling down Odum Road in the opposite direction as the suspects.

Denham said Lynch then began a pursuit of the suspects, along with officer Chris Barnett. Officers from other jurisdictions, including Fultondale, Birmingham and state troopers, were also part of the pursuit.

After a chase on Interstate 65, the pursuit ended on 18th Street North and 15th Avenue North. The suspects fled the vehicle, but Barnett was able to grab one suspect.

The arrested suspect, 22-year-old Adrione Quartez Randall, was expected to be charged with first-degree robbery.

The other suspects eluded capture, but Denham said he anticipated future arrests.

“We feel strongly that we’ll be able to make cases against additional people,” he said.
